Get Fit Fast At Home with Bodylastics Resistance Bands
Use Bodylastics Resistance Bands
In 2000 I decided a plan was required to get fitter, prevent injury and get better at the sports I love. While playing football, tennis, running and golf (yes addicted to sports) I felt I was not strong, fit or healthy enough to make the most of these sports. I love to play sport and hope to compete for as long as possible.
What can I do to get better at sport?
Getting better equates to more fun so I actively researched what could be done. The necessary steps took a long time to figure out with far too many costly mistakes. I’m still learning of course.
The obvious steps to improve at sports:
1. Simple, practice more.
2. Train harder. Easier said that done when you keep coming down with regular colds. This leads to what food/fuel I’m consuming.
3. Improve diet – Eventually settled on The Palio Diet after much convincing by an excellent CrossFit trainer.
4. Reduce stress. Long hours crouching over a PC mess you up.
5. Get more sleep and go to bed much earlier. The 2 hours sleep before midnight are vital.
6. Cut out booze or at the very least reduce frequency.
7. Join a gym and use it – This ultimately proved a waste of time.
8. Focus on sport specific workouts and drills.
9. Train at home as often as possible to save time.
10. Incorporate CrossFit training.
11. Buy the most effective training system to use regularly at home.
= TRAINING MUCH SMARTER
I spent weeks researching the web with the goal of finding the best training system out there at a reasonable price. There was no way I’d spend a grand on a multi-gym, Concept 2 Rower, crossfit machine or other exercise machine.
Initially I bought a cool Turbo Trax bike trainer for €200 which was used for 2 weeks then abandoned. I also bought a wrist breaking punch bag, free weights, kettle bells, bar bells, thera-bands for rehab work plus skipping rope, situp devices, pull-up bars (excellent buy!) and a mini trampoline. Excluding the pull up bar, kettle bells and skipping rope the items were a waste of money as rarely used.
In 2000 I began to study all aspects of strength training. All the research pointed towards sport specific strength training to improve sporting performance. The top athletes were always the strong athletes.
The 3 types of strength training are:
- Weight training (Been there – done that – dodgy neck)
- Isometric training (Seemed promising – worked for Charles Atlas)
- Resistance training (Seemed really promising – must give it a shot)
I had spent many years free weight training but was fed up with the sore back, dodgy neck and aching muscles. Flexibility also suffered greatly despite repeated stretching. My hand swing speed (so vital in tennis, golf and squash) had slowed down considerably. Bulking up while helpful for GAA, soccer and rugby (tougher in a tackle) was not great for tennis, golf and running. For these sports having a lean, supply but strong body was paramount.
Research indicated that resistance training was the way to go so I checked out the best forms of resistance training.
Late in 2000 I came across Bodylastics strength training bands and decided to buy the maximum tension set. Once the package arrived I did some rotator cuff exercises, seated rows and a set of forward shoulder presses. The workout was tough but worth it.
The resistance bands were impressive and the additional components were well made and extremely tough. Within weeks of using the bands every other day I noticed my strength was increasing.
To cut a long story short the Bodylastics resistance bands are a great investment for keen sports people or indeed anyone who wants to get fitter while training at home. Any of my mates who tested the bands tried everything in their power to take them home. Usually they went home disappointed and were forced to buy the bands on Bodylastics.com. No way was I giving these training bands away.
